GCF's strategies work to expand opportunities for Greater Cincinnati residents to achieve financial stability and prosperity. Below are the strategies for Economic Opportunity:

  • Obtain and retain gainful employment and advance along a career pathway through continuing educational attainment
  • Ensure individuals’ and families’basic needs for food, clothing, transportation and shelter and provide opportunities for them tocontribute to their community
  • Assist individuals and families in achieving stability by providing access to financial education andwork supports

Our work with nonprofits gives us insight into the most pressing needs in our community. Find out what we’ve learned in the area of economic development and read about some of the nonprofits that are finding solutions to local problems.

Please note that what’s listed below is not an exhaustive list of our grants but some highlights of the needs our grants have addressed.

Everyone Deserves a Home
Jimmy Heath House, a project of Over-the-Rhine Community Housing, targets the chronically homeless.
Fighting Discrimination with Homeownership
BLOC Ministries pioneered the McPherson Mi Casa project to offer the opportunity of home ownership to disadvantaged Hispanic families and to initiate a community response to housing discrimination. 
Keeping Seniors in Their Homes
People Working Cooperatively (PWC) works with low-income seniors so they can stay in their homes for as long as possible.
Restoring a Neighborhood
The South Cumminsville Community Council collaborated with Working in Neighborhoods (WIN) to focus on developing homes in the Borden Street Corridor as a way to battle foreclosure and increase home ownership.
