Lives Can Be Changed By Words

Ken Spurlock believes lives can be changed by words. When the retired educator made a grant proposal to GCF, it was so that he and his peers could start The Northern Kentucky Region of The Scholastic Writing Awards. Now in its second year, “Scholastics” accepts and recognizes the writing of students, grades seven through twelve, in a six-county area of Northern Kentucky. Submissions are judged and the best entries are forwarded to The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards in New York City. Local winners are honored at a ceremony at Northern Kentucky University.

Ken said one brief moment of recognition can change a young life.
