Grants Assist With Emergency Needs

Cincinnati, OH - June 23, 2011 - The Weathering the Economic Storm (WTES) funding partners recently granted $70,000 to assist nonprofits with unforeseen needs. The partnership has been dedicated to helping nonprofit agencies and clients struggling with the impact of the economic recession.

Grants were awarded to Caracole, City Gospel MissionJobs for Cincinnati Graduates and the Safety Net Alliance. Each of these nonprofits is addressing the needs of individuals and families by providing emergency assistance and/or opportunities for economic and/or housing stability.

  • Caracole will augment its information technology capacity due to an unexpected expansion to its number of clients.
  • City Gospel Mission will use its grant for its Work Program that assists participants in obtaining permanent housing.
  • Jobs for Cincinnati Graduates’ grant will support employment counseling, training and placement in its High School to Career program. It will also purchase bus cards and bus tokens for participants.
  • Safety Net Alliance will provide direct assistance to an estimated 15,000 individuals through emergency housing, rent and utilities, non-emergency health care and prescription assistance, hunger prevention and food security.

The WTES funding partnership, convened by GCF, has served more than 65,000 individuals and awarded more than $4.3 million to 116 organizations.
