Grants Make Summer Fun for 20 Years

CINCINNATI, OH – June 28, 2011 – Summertime Kids, a Grants for Kids program of The Greater Cincinnati Foundation (GCF), recently awarded 137 grants, totaling $128,506. Approximately 14,000 children benefited from these grants in all eight counties of GCF’s service area.

Summertime Kids awards up to $1,000 to nonprofit organizations that provide enriching programs for children during the summer months.

In the last 20 years, Summertime Kids has awarded more than 2,000 grants, totaling nearly $2 million.

Examples of activities funded this year include:

Bethany House Services, Inc. (Hamilton County) provides recreational and educational services to the homeless families it serves. Children will experience visits to local parks, museums, farms and summer camps.

Butler County Challenger Summer Baseball (Butler County) organizes baseball teams for youth ages 5-22 with physical and mental challenges. Its grant will help players with uniform hats and T-shirts.

The Baker Hunt Art & Cultural Center (Kenton County) gives scholarships to low-income children so they can attend Camp Da Vinci. Camp sessions explore the role of art in our daily lives through art, gardening and cooking.
