BLINK® With GCF This Fall

For four dazzling nights in 2017, more than a million people from our region came together for BLINK®. We soaked up the brilliant, visual extravaganza that shimmered across more than 20 of Cincinnati’s urban blocks. It wasn’t just a static display. The shared moment of art and light was integral to its phenomenal appeal.

It’s no wonder we’re already feeling the energy of a new, expanded, and even more radiant BLINK® 2019 that will span both sides of the river — from Over-the-Rhine to Covington — Oct. 10-13. Right in the middle of the festival is the Roebling Suspension Bridge, which has been a powerful icon in our skyline and symbol of regional connectedness for more than a century. Greater Cincinnati Foundation (GCF) has partnered with our donors and signed on to sponsor the BLINK® installation on the bridge. We’re anticipating the excitement of connecting millions across our region and this stunning landmark.

“When we were asked to sponsor the bridge for BLINK®, we jumped at the chance to demonstrate our regional focus via this vibrant, symbolic structure,” said Ellen M. Katz, GCF’s President and CEO. “GCF exists for our entire eight-county community, and we want to demonstrate our commitment to bringing Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky together. The bridge was the first span to create our region in a physical way. Thanks to that symbolism — and its truly beautiful structure — we know people are going to want to celebrate it, and we are thrilled to connect both sides of the river for this momentous event.

“When GCF invested in BLINK® in 2017, we learned — and experienced — its potential to bring people from all walks of life together in a fun and harmonious way. We welcome the opportunity to invest in keeping that spirit flowing throughout our region.”

BLINK®’s expanded footprint aligns with GCF’s intentional support for the vibrancy of Northern Kentucky. Recently we celebrated the 20th anniversary of GCF’s Northern Kentucky Fund by committing more than $750,000 in grants and sponsorships to 103 Northern Kentucky organizations, including $125,000 in targeted Impact Grants focused on workforce development in Northern Kentucky.

“When people encounter the ever-changing spectacle as they cross the bridge — in both directions — I want them to experience something unexpected,” Katz added. “They will recognize GCF as the critical connector that we are. I think it’s an opportunity to be seen differently in the eyes of a new generation too, because there are going to be a lot of young people walking across that bridge. Vibrancy matters to them, and this is a huge celebration of the vibrancy of our community. And that’s our mission — to make every part of our region a more vibrant community for all of us.”
