Cincinnati, OH - July 17, 2012 - The Greater Cincinnati Foundation’s second quarter grants include investments that respond to needs identified by the region’s nonprofit sector, as well as innovative strategies to drive growth and make the most of the Foundation’s assets.

Thirty-nine grants, totaling $1,856,164 supported GCF’s seven grantmaking areas. For example, a grant supporting Health & Wellness was made to the Cincinnati Association of the Blind & Visually Impaired to expand low vision services for children. An Environmental Stewardship grant allows for the restoration of the original pond at Linden Grove Cemetery. Click here to read a complete list of grants.

Two community leadership grants, totaling $700,000, were made to support Cincinnati Public School’s Community Learning Centers and the United Way of Greater Cincinnati’s Social Innovation Fund. Both of these investments support the educational success objective of our Community Investment Framework.

A capacity building grant of $100,000 was made to the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber Foundation’s CincyTech Entrepreneurial Signature Program. This complements a recent impact investment we made with CincyTech, and will leverage significant third frontier funding from the state.  Impact investments are low-interest loans or equity positions that allow the Foundation to “recycle” charitable capital, helping to do good work in the community, get repaid, and use the money again.
