Racial Equity Matters Sessions Engage Over 600 Participants

Talking about race is challenging. It’s a challenge we are meeting head-on, because we believe that it is the work of our generation. Our country has a complicated and contradictory history. We believe it is our imperative to create a space for dialogue as a means toward reconciliation and growth.

Greater Cincinnati Foundation (GCF) put that conviction into action this year with a full series of Racial Equity Matters trainings. Through four half-day Groundwater introductory sessions and six two-day, deeper-dive Phase 1 trainings, we connected over 600 people to the conversation in 2019.

Thanks to the generous support of our donors and partners, we have been able to provide these sessions as a gift to our community. In 2020, we will again offer Racial Equity Matters trainings — including two Groundwater and eight Phase 1 sessions — to an even broader range of participants with the help of our committed partners.

Here are the 2020 Racial Equity Matters training dates:

Phase 1:

  • Friday-Saturday, Feb. 7-8;
  •  Friday-Saturday, April 3-4;
  • Thursday-Friday, May 7-8;
  • Wednesday-Thursday, June 3-4;
  • Thursday-Friday, July 16-17;
  • Monday-Tuesday, Aug. 10-11;
  • Thursday-Friday, Oct. 15-16;
  • Thursday-Friday, Nov. 19-20.

Groundwater:

  • Tuesday, June 2;
  •  Wednesday, Aug. 12.

New this year are two Phase 1 sessions (February and April) that include a Saturday, for participants who find it difficult to devote two work-week days to the trainings. Venues for the two Groundwater sessions and eight Phase 1 trainings are still to be announced.

We encourage you to consider sponsoring this important work, and we are grateful for the organizations and donors who have already committed their support to the 2020 Racial Equity Matters trainings. They include:

  • Flip and Sheila Cohen
  • Duke Energy
  • E.W. Scripps Company
  • JPMorgan Chase & Co.
  • The Manuel D. & Rhoda Mayerson Foundation
  • Ohio National Financial Services

Registration for several sessions will open in January. For further information about sponsorship opportunities, as well as registration for the trainings, please visit www.gcfdn.org/REM.
