Women’s Fund Appointed Event Inspires Leadership

More than 70 women from across the region showed up to the Greater Cincinnati Foundation on Wednesday, February 22nd for an evening of networking, sharing stories and encouraging women to consider leadership roles.

Appointed is a non-partisan initiative offered by the Women’s Fund that identifies opportunities for women to serve on civic boards and commissions.

Organizer of the Women Who Lead Mixer, Rajani Menon says it was “everything I hoped and much more. It was impressive to have ladies from all walks of life attend. This signals to me that civic engagement is a top priority for women. I’m so proud that we’re offering them a way to prepare to lead and serve. I’m energized by the passion and courage I see in them, and I look forward to holding more events like this one.”

Many of the women who attended expressed enthusiasm and passion for serving their communities.

Leslie Mattie Rich, Cincinnati Senior Action strategist, (pictured here) “It was a delight to see women that have been a part of my life for years and to meet other women shepherding good work in the region. I enjoyed learning from panel members and hope that the connections I made grow into something transformative for our community”.

Tracey Nicole Stokes, (pictured here) “The event was so impactful! Having the opportunity to be in the presence of women invested in the elevation of other women was priceless. I am excited to engage with this dynamic group in the future.”

The Women’s Fund is committed to the Appointed initiative, first started in 2018 has helped over 500 women get appointments to boards and commissions in the greater Cincinnati region.

“We believe, civic leadership should reflect the communities in which they serve, and Appointed was launched to address the fact that women today – especially women of color – are deeply underrepresented on public board seats in our region,” said Alicia Miller, executive director of the Women’s Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation.
