Grants to Greater Cincinnati Hospitals Honor Front-Line Hospital Workers

National Guard flyovers. Donated meals and hand-sewn masks. Social media tributes. Heart-felt expressions of gratitude.

We recognize that our nation’s health care workers are on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic battle every hour of every day. Hamilton County alone has tens of thousands of health care workers, and there are tens of thousands more throughout our tri-state region. Doctors, nurses, lab technicians, pharmacists, patient care assistants – along with those not always seen who perform critical health facility functions from laundry and room cleaning to hazardous waste disposal.

As a gesture of appreciation to their unwavering service, the COVID-19 Regional Response Fund has donated $30,000 each to our regional health care systems: The Christ Hospital, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Mercy Health, St. Elizabeth Healthcare, TriHealth and University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

“We are profoundly grateful for the immeasurable sacrifices our health care workers are making for all of us,” said Ellen M. Katz, Greater Cincinnati Foundation President and CEO. “These grants were made by the COVID-19 Regional Response Fund to provide support and express appreciation for their relentless courage in the face of this crisis.”

The rapid-response fund, activated by Greater Cincinnati Foundation and United Way of Greater Cincinnati, distributed $7.2 million in emergency relief to 200 nonprofit organizations that serve the region’s most vulnerable individuals and families, exceeding its $5 million goal within seven weeks.
