Supporting the LGBTQ+ Community

Everyone deserves to feel safe and at home. Over the past 60 years, GCF has led the charge to inspire generous people to invest in the well-being of all members of our community. While proud of the progress our region has made, we recognize that so many of our community members still do not feel safe and their needs are unmet. In response, GCF is collaborating with a LGBTQ+ Giving Circle, which focuses on addressing the basic needs of the LGBTQ+ community with an emphasis on affordable housing and improving mental health. This giving circle is driven by charitable donors who are passionate about improving the lives of LGBTQ+ individuals.

A 2022 study by the Trevor Project found that 45% of LGBTQ+ youth seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year. Furthermore, 28% of LGBTQ+ youth report experiencing housing insecurity or instability – a trend that can lead to long-term hardships.

Addressing critical needs in our community is a part of Greater Cincinnati Foundation’s DNA. We know that for our region to prosper, everyone needs equitable access to opportunity, housing and healthcare and to be treated with respect and dignity. At our core, we believe that it is our collective responsibility as a community to take care of our family, friends, neighbors and colleagues. Together, we can create a future where all of us have the freedom to be ourselves and thrive.
