Apply by Feb. 3 for 2020 Providing a Safety Net Funding

December 5, 2019

Greater Cincinnati Foundation’s (GCF) first Request for Proposals (RFP) for 2020, Providing a Safety Net for Individuals and Families, is now open for applications. The release date is earlier than in previous years to give nonprofit organizations a longer window to apply for funding. The deadline for submitting proposals is Monday, Feb. 3, at 5:00 p.m.

Funding for Safety Net grants focuses on two compelling needs:

  • Ensuring that vulnerable residents of our region have access to food and shelter
  • Increasing access to well-integrated and/or trauma-informed mental health services

In keeping with GCF’s racial equity objective, preferential consideration will be given to solutions developed through a racial equity lens, and collaborations between organizations are encouraged. Once again, in response to the shift in the level of support available to our region in this critical sector, grants of up to $50,000 will be awarded.

Through partnerships with our generous donors, we recognize that this is a crucial element in promoting economic equity, which enriches our entire community. Thanks to that generosity, GCF awarded $752,600 in 2019 Safety Net grants to 20 nonprofit organizations in our eight-county region of Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.

The 2019 Safety Net awards supported such programs as after-school meals for underserved children; triage support to connect those in crisis with relief resources and mental health counseling; “last resort” assistance for rent, utilities and food to prevent homelessness; and child abuse treatment services.

GCF will offer an optional RFP workshop on Tuesday, Jan. 7, from 3 to 5 p.m. to answer questions, walk through the application process and provide an intentional space for identifying opportunities to collaborate.
