Jan and Wym Portman to be Honored at Annual Luncheon

The Greater Cincinnati Foundation will present Jan and Wym Portman with the Jacob E. Davis Volunteer Leadership Award at its Dec. 7, 2015, Annual Luncheon.

Portmans(Cincinnati) November 11, 2015 - The Greater Cincinnati Foundation will present Jan and Wym Portman with the Jacob E. Davis Volunteer Leadership Award at its Dec. 7 Annual Luncheon.

The Jacob E. Davis Volunteer Leadership Award, presented since 1987, recognizes the leadership and generosity of time provided by an individual or couple committed to improving the quality of life in Greater Cincinnati. The Award was named in honor of Jacob E. Davis, GCF’s first Governing Board Chair and Volunteer Director from 1978 to 1987.

“The Portmans are the perfect example of what generosity and volunteer leadership can accomplish for our community,” said President/CEO Ellen Katz. “Together and as individuals, they have partnered with many of our region’s nonprofits to create a more vibrant region. They have a long volunteer history with The Greater Cincinnati Foundation, and we are honored to recognize them.”

The consensus with the numerous organizations the Portmans have worked with is that they are dedicated, gracious, and insightful. They have given their time to many local and national nonprofit organizations. Both have worked with the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, Ohio River Way, The Nature Conservancy and  GCF.

Wym is a former GCF Governing Board Chair and serves on its Impact Investment Committee. Jan is also a former GCF committee member.

Wym is the Director of Sustainability for Pon North America. He is former President of Pon North America and was the CEO of Portman Equipment Company for more than 20 years.

Jan is a geologist and has taught at Harvard University and the University of Cincinnati. She has been a volunteer leader at The Nature Conservancy for more than 20 years. She also works with the nonprofit Rare, Smith College, and Whitman College. She recently joined the board of ArtWorks
